The Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) program includes the following options:

Basic Life: Free term insurance based on annual wage. Includes Accidental Death & Dismemberment and Living Benefits for terminally ill employees. Coverage decreases after retirement and at age 65.

Extra Benefits: No-cost multiple of Basic Coverage for employees under 45.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D): Applies to Basic Life and Option A, double payment for accidental death and specified percentage for dismemberment.

Option A: $10,000 level term insurance, referred to as a Burial Policy. Level decreases by 2% a year after age 65. Includes AD&D.

Option B: Most popular choice, allows employee to elect 1-5 times their annual wage. Low cost when young, rates increase every 5 years starting at age 35.

Option C: Family Coverage covers spouse and children, spouse units at $5,000 each with a max coverage of $25,000. Children no longer covered at 25 years old.
